Theresa May's announcement that the government will seek to hold a general election on 8 June is a turning point for us all.

After years of a Tory Government our public services are on their knees, our NHS is in crisis, our schools are underfunded, thousands rely on food banks to feed their families, people are on poverty wages while prices soar, the most vulnerable have been hit again and again. If the Tories get back into Government things will get much much worse. More cuts are planned, more privatisation, more misery for the majority. We at the People's Assembly want to do all we can to ensure this does not happen.

We're not campaigning for any one political party - we are a cross party campaign. But we want to make sure the main architects of austerity are out off office. Our campaign won't stop at the election, whatever the result. But a Tory free Government is the first step towards ending austerity.

We will continue to highlight the crisis the Tories have created and expose their real record in power. We are planning actions and events across the country which can expose the lies the Tory party will spread during the campaign.

To kick it off we're producing thousands of "Tories Out - no more austerity" badges, stickers, posters, t-shirts and more

Get your #ToriesOut badges, stickers, T-Shirts and Tote Bags at our People's Assembly Shop.

Take them to your next local campaign group meeting so everyone can get the message out that TORIES MUST GO. Wear the ToriesOut slogan T-shirt everywhere you go - on your morning run, the school run, to the pub. Give badges to your workmates, friends and family. Put stickers on everything you see!

We must try to convince Labour to change its mind and form a progressive alliance promising to hold a second EU referendum. I’m certain that the electorate, knowing what it now knows about Brexit, would be prompted to oust the Tories.

I’m afraid that, with respect, Tee-shirts and badges saying “Tories Out” is just not going to cut it with too many people in the situation we are now all in!. It’s old hat and will, obviously, not work!! MUCH more is needed and energy should go into that. I long for an end to this Govt. of deep austerity and it’s planned destruction of fairness, the NHS and so much more. But too many other people have been convinced by clever words eg: that TMay offers “stability” etc and for too many people, the lives of all those affected by austerity and desperate housing non-policies etc – are mostly just un-noticed. And Brexit is seen as some magical answer to everything, it seems. What IS desperately needed is a bold, clearly given programme for a real alternative, with proper facts and figures, delivered with strength and clarity – NOT more soap-box phrases with which people are far too familiar (& bored) now! Sorry, but this IS true. A strong coalition of all those Parties and Groups who share the basic ideals of greater fairness, investment in infrastructure, the NHS, Housing and anti-austerity etc, could just make the difference. BUT the LP rejected such an idea a while ago when it was suggested. (as it was, by Caroline Lucas). What is quite clear, is that more of the same will not make any difference. I am heartbroken at the situation and the thought of at least another 5 years of Tory destruction.
