Junior doctors press the struggle for patient safety
Tuesday 26 April / 8 a.m. / Addenbrooke's Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2
Tomorrow the junior doctors of the British Medical Association will take their strongest action yet in their struggle against the Conservative government's unsafe, unfair new contract, when they walk out completely between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday and again for the same period on Wednesday. (Earlier action, in which they continued to provide emergency cover, proved not to be enough to force the government to listen.) We'd urge anyone who can to visit the doctors' picket lines at Addenbrooke's Hospital from 8 a.m.

Wednesday 9 March / 8 a.m. / Addenbrooke's Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 0QQ
Last month the government announced that it would quit negotiations with the British Medical Association (BMA) and simply impose its unsafe, unfair new contract on junior doctors in England. The junior doctors are beginning their fight against imposition with a 48-hour industrial action, providing emergency care only between 8 a.m. on Wednesday 9 March and 8 a.m. on Friday 11 March. They have the full support of the Cambridge People's Assembly, and we'd urge anyone who can to visit their picket at Addenbrooke's Hospital between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
Emergency at our hospitals
The Cambridge Health Emergency campaign issued an urgent, informative leaflet this month explaining the situation at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie. We're glad to republish the text here with the campaign's permission.

Wednesday 10 February / 10 a.m. / Addenbrooke's Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 0QQ
The junior doctors of the British Medical Association (BMA) have been forced to return to strike action by the government's failure to address their concerns about their new contract: from 8 a.m. on Wednesday to 8 a.m. on Thursday they will provide emergency care only. The Cambridge People's Assembly continues to support fully the doctors, and we'd urge anyone who can to visit their picket at Addenbrooke's Hospital between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. or to join their strike rally there at 10 a.m.

The junior doctors of the British Medical Association (BMA) are taking strike action for the first time tomorrow, after the Conservative government refused to offer sufficient safeguards for NHS doctors and their patients in the latest negotiations over the doctors' contracts. The Cambridge People's Assembly fully supports their action, and we'd urge anyone who can to visit the doctors' picket at Addenbrooke's Hospital between 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. or to join their strike rally there at 10 a.m.

Tuesday 17 November / 7.30 p.m. / Alex Wood Hall, Norfolk Street, Cambridge CB1 2LD
The next meeting to plan the Cambridge Health Emergency campaign, founded recently to stand up for our local hospitals Addenbrooke's and the Rosie after their parent trust was placed in special measures, will be held tomorrow at Alex Wood Hall. Among other things it will hear a report from a public meeting of the trust's directors and start to plan a wider meeting of its own, to inform and organize patients to act against any threats to their hospitals in the form of cuts or private sector entry.
Cambridge Health Emergency organizing meeting
Thursday 22 October / 7.30 p.m. / Caroline Stephen Room, Friends' Meeting House, 12 Jesus Lane, Cambridge CB5 8BA
A meeting on 13 October founded a campaign, Cambridge Health Emergency, to stand up for our local hospitals Addenbrooke's and the Rosie after their parent trust was placed in special measures the previous month (see our group's statement). This means demanding three things.
- No financially-driven cuts.
- No privatization.
- Full funding of services.
The next campaign meeting will be held tonight. Apologies for the short notice!
Defend Addenbrooke's Hospital
Tuesday 13 October / 7.30 p.m. / Alex Wood Hall, Norfolk Street, Cambridge CB1 2LD
Join tonight's meeting to set up a broad campaign group 'to defend Addenbrooke's, its services, and its staff', following the imposition of special measures at the hospital's parent trust three weeks ago (see our statement at the time). The Cambridge People's Assembly will fully support this campaign.
Rally for Addenbrooke's Hospital
Friday 25 September / 4 p.m. / Addenbrooke's Hospital (the front car park), Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 0QQ
Our friends in Cambridge Keep Our NHS Public and the UNISON Cambridge Acute Hospitals branch have organized a rally, Hands Off Addenbrooke's, to show support for the hospital and its staff after the regulator placed Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in special measures on Tuesday (see our statement). The Care Quality Commission, whose rating of the trust as inadequate provoked the action by Monitor, went out of its way to praise hospital staff.
