People's Assembly Newsletter 13 June 2014
[Call for volunteers: if you can help on the demonstration or in the office next week please get in touch]
The No More Austerity National Demonstration is just one week away! Last night on BBC Question Time, People's Assembly Press Officer David Peel made a fantastic case for the demo from the audience. Here it is in case you missed it - click here to watch.
The National Union of Teachers have made a great video encouraging their members to attend. Click here to watch.
And here's a new leaflet from the Fire Brigades Union who will also be on strike on that day:
Over the next seven days please do all you can to help make the demo even bigger! Here's a few suggestions:
- leaflet your street
- leaflet your local train / tube station
- blue tack posters to bus stops / phone boxes etc
- help out on a stall this weekend: contact your local People's Assembly group for details
If you need publicity, please contact the office.
We urgently need volunteers to help steward the demonstration. Stewards will need to be there on the day early and we'll have a stewards briefing on Thursday 19 June at 6:30pm. Contact the office for details.
We also need people helping in the office everyday next week from 10am - 6pm.
If you can help, please reply to this email or phone 020 8525 6988 (if out of office hours just leave a message)
'Homes not Spikes'
So we've successfully won the first battle in the war on 'anti-homeless' spikes. Congratulations and well done to all involved. Yesterday, the spikes outside Tesco on Regent Street were removed.
We've also managed to spur on the removal of the spikes located at flats in Southwark.
We need to continue putting the pressure on to remind corporations and councils that 'anti-homeless' spikes are not the answer. We'll be calling for a national ban on 'anti-homeless' devices. The protest planned as part of the People's Assembly national demo will still go ahead but in a different location. We'll keep you up to date! Details will be updated on the Facebook event -click here.
