'Liar Liar' song hits No.10 in charts, BigTop40 refuse to play it

A song accusing Theresa May of being a ‘liar’ has today hit no.10 in the download chart but the BigTop40 chart show on Capital FM and Heart have refused to play it.

Performed and produced by the band Captain Ska and promoted by campaign organisation the People’s Assembly Against Austerity the song features various speeches and news interviews from Theresa May followed by a chorus of ‘She’s a Liar, Liar…you can’t trust her, no no no no'.

The song attacks the Conservative Parties' record in office over the NHS crisis, education and levels of poverty. "When there's nurses going hungry and schools in decline I don't recognise this broken country of mine' goes one of the lyrics.

The song has been available for download from last Friday (26 May) and has been rising up in the iTunes charts, reaching no.10 today.

The chart show, hosted by Marvin Humes & Kat Shoob, announced the track had reached no.10 but instead of playing it went straight onto playing no.9.

Jake from Captain Ska said

“This can only be seen as an attempt by the media owners to undermine public opinion. Thousands of people have downloaded this track and we demand that it is aired as any other song would be."

"We've written 'Liar Liar GE2017' for this General Election because we want to do all we can to expose the horrific effects Tory policy has had on ordinary people. Theresa May lies her way through interview after interview without addressing the real issues. We’re sick of her and her party of millionaires privatising and cutting our public services while the rest of the country faces deteriorating living standards and poverty. The money is there to improve the lives of the majority but it’s in the hands of the wrong people.”

The track is available to download from all major outlets including Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify & Band Camp. All money spent on downloads of the track between 26th May and 8th June 2017 will be split between food banks around the UK and The People's Assembly Against Austerity.  According to Jake ‘helping those who are suffering most under Tory Britain and building a mass campaign for the alternative to austerity.

The People's Assembly is asking all supporters to complain to the BigTop40.

Liar Liar by @CaptainSKA got to No.10 in download chart - @BigTop40 refuse to play it. Can we get an explanation? @MarvinHumes @katshoob

Amazon - iTunes - Bandcamp - Spotify

(Please note Captain Ska previously released a version of Liar Liar in 2010 so don't download the wrong one! Correct track is called 'Liar Liar GE2017')

Keep downloading - we can still push it up the charts and force the media to play it!

Hi Richard – “Tax cuts for the few”? Didn’t those nasty Tories increase the tax threshold a while back meaning that many people on low incomes now no longer pay tax? Isn’t that a tax cut?

And I think you have the choice as to which media outlet you choose to buy, don’t like Murdoch/Rothermere then don’t buy their streams. Instead go for the BBC, they appear to be the mouthpiece of the Labour Party anyway – If only I had a choice not to pay for dear old Auntie . . . .

Well the only liar is Jeremy Corbyn, he DID NOT win the Election, he lost it and he cannot remove a Govt with a March, no matter how many times he Marches or states he can bring down the Govt.

Tax cuts for the few and public service for the many, and was she found out on June 8 along with her media outriders such as Murdoch and Rothermere.
Now she has not got the majority she craved and the Murdoch cannot drive through full control of Sky.

of course their avoidance of paying tax would have absolutely no influence of who the Global management would like to be in 10 Downing Street would it?

Peter Fraser-Bodenham, your observations made from the rose tinted windows in your ivory tower are insulting to everyone that works hard but still struggles with the increasingly expensive world we live in.
Maybe you are in the fortunate position of being able to insulate yourself against relationship breakdowns, ill health, redundancy and limited local opportunities. Some of us aren’t so fortunate, and then all of the hard work, overtime, missing out on your children, taking on additional responsibilities to get noticed, and working your way up count for nothing when your husband has only just found agency work after his 3rd spinal op in 8 years and suddenly you have to take months off work because of cancer; he has to take unpaid leave to care for you being an agency worker; you let the critical illness insurance slide because you had to prioritise what you could afford whilst he couldn’t work, and when you are fit to go back to work your career trajectory has flat-lined, your operations director has moved to a different role and the new one has no idea who you are and your immediate superiors decided between themselves without asking you that you would want to take a back seat.
The company gets sold off and of the few employers looking for your skill set you find you’re over qualified for the mid level roles because they expect you would up and leave, but the roles at your own level are being filled by your former colleagues from the tier above because you’re now looking at a level where it’s not considered beneath the people that HAD worked at a higher level.
The only work available is agency work which has no security.
Work your way out of that…
That’s my story but we aren’t unique. Sometimes misfortune is not down to a poor work ethic, in fact despite the ill-informed, smug, I’m alright Jack rhetoric of the Tories misfortune is very rarely down to a poor work ethic.
Try caring instead of condemning, try seeing past your nose instead of looking down it, stop perceiving others’ failings and just count your own blessings.

That’s digusting, They won’t play it. Wonder if they would of if it was about Corbyn? People should abandon tuning in to this radio station till they do play it. After all it is for charity. Well done Captain Skla

Now if all those that downloaded the song go out and vote against the conservatives they may not get in this time around

They all lie, are you people actually that thick! She is still a more competent leader then he could ever be! The bloke lives in a dream world and clearly so do you lot! If people want to earn decent money, perhaps they should work harder for it!

I’ve just bought the song on itunes.
We also made our own Anti-Tory anthem for fun.
Enjoy it here, fully free – for the cause. :)

What really annoys me is the fact that the media are able to openly slate Jeremy Corbyn in such a vicious manner, yet nothing happens. A song comes out exposing Teresa May and it is instantly banned from being played. UK media needs to stop this biased lead campaign of misrepresentation and hidden agendas. It’s not real journalism. I’m so glad there is such a thing as the Internet to expose this sort of thing and that the people of the UK are smarter than the media gives them credit for.

Google are restricting searches on the song too (17k compared to 1m on Bing). They have also removed the news tab when you search for it

just fired off an email, growing up through the Punk era I’m used to certain tracks being banned can’t believe it’s still going on, corporate censorship is a vile thing and needs stamping out. This really gets up my nose. In solidarity
