We knew it was bad but in the short space of time we were there over 50% of the people we met told us they'd been sanctioned, some more than once. One woman told us her sanction was because she missed her appointment because she'd had a seizure and 'hadn't contacted them in time', although she explained that she'd been on the floor at the time. Others informed us they were sanctioned for being a few minutes late to an appointment.

Most people hadn't appealed and didn't know they had the right to - they're not advised of this at the time. Most people aren't properly informed that they've been sanctioned so only become aware when they go to draw their money from the bank.

In a nutshell people are being treated as though they are less than human and I think we were all most surprised by the fact that people are so beaten into submission that they take it all lying down.

We gathered some names today of some folk who want to fight back and hope to set up some kind of claimants' union (depending on what they want).

Things are only going to get worse and we need to get organised. Our next meeting - Wed 10th Dec at 7.00 am, St Bryce Kirk, Kirkcaldy - new members very welcome
