Chaired by Richard Morgan (GMB) – President Derby Area TUC
The March, the Laying of the Chaplet and the midday Rally commemorate the 1834 struggle of Derby workers with Silk Mill workers at the heart. It was the first organised industrial trade union struggle in Britain, involving workers in the mills of the Derwent Valley and a year long general strike in Derby which was met with the full force of the establishment and State. The best commemoration is to recommit ourselves to fight just as hard to defeat “Austerity”, and fight for Trade Union rights & freedom.
