"...austerity today, imposed in a way that intensifies inequality and insecurity, means a generation deprived of their birthright. The damage done now to the rising generation is not going to be repaired by some imagined "return to normal" in however many years' time.
We are laying the foundation for lives overshadowed by anxiety and scarred by a sense of helplessness. We need to argue the case for alternatives that don't blight the hopes of our children.'
