What a fantastic weekend! The People's Assembly would like to send congratulations to our friend Jeremy Corbyn for his victory on Saturday.
Jeremy helped launch the People's Assembly in 2013 and has been a supporter ever since, speaking at many of our events and helping to build a broad based movement against austerity in Britain.
On the same day the Labour Leadership result was announced, tens of thousands of people flooded the streets of London, and other places across the country, to say 'Refugees Welcome Here'.
This weekend was a big step forward for the whole movement and it's got the Government scared. The attacks on the anti-austerity, anti-war & progressive politics that made Corbyn's campaign so popular have already started.
We've had a big victory this weekend however we still face years of a Conservative Government who want to rip apart the NHS, Welfare State, education system & who are attempting to extend anti-union laws. The hard work is just about to start.
Michael Gove said yesterday on the Andrew Marr show that Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters want to bring protest on to the street.
For once, Gove is absolutely right. We want to mobilise the biggest possible opposition on the streets, in our workplaces and communities which can force the Government out of office.
Lets make sure when the Conservative Party hold their annual conference in Manchester from 3 - 7 October they are met with mass protest, direct action and opposition, lets make sure the anti-austerity movement takes back Manchester.
