Strike at McDonald's

Monday 4 September / 6–7 a.m. / McDonald's, 639 Newmarket Road, Cambridge CB5 8WL

McDonald's workers in Cambridge will strike on 4 September against management bullying and for a £10 hourly wage, union rights, and guaranteed hours. Workers in the Baking, Food, and Allied Workers' Union at the restaurant on Newmarket Road and at another restaurant in Crayford, south-east London, voted 95.7 per cent in favour of the action. The Cambridge People's Assembly fully supports the strikers, and will carry its banner to their early-morning picket line.

Tom Holliday, a worker at the Cambridge restaurant, has explained the strike for the Fast Food Rights campaign blog.

We are asking to be treated with dignity and to be paid a decent wage, and for our right to form a union to be recognized by our employer. McDonald's must consider reinvesting its huge amount of net profits back into its work force. We believe it is our right to ask for a fair treatment for the hard work we perform.
