London rally and lobby against the Trade Union Bill

Monday 2 November / 1 p.m. / Central Hall, Storey's Gate, London SW1H 9NH

The next important action against the government's Trade Union Bill is a rally and lobby of MPs in Westminster on Monday, organized by the Trades Union Congress. The rally begins at 1 p.m. at Central Hall, and the lobby at 2.30 p.m. at Parliament.

The vindictive bill would, for example,

  • impose uniquely steep procedural requirements on ballots for industrial action (50 per cent participation, supermajorities, periodic repetition);
  • allow employers to use agency workers to break strikes, with a doubled period of 14 days' notice to make the arrangements; and
  • impose labyrinthine restrictions on picketing (including the appointment of a 'picket supervisor' who must at all times wear an armband and carry a letter, and identify her or himself to anyone 'who reasonably asks').

We have to do all we can to stop it passing into law.
