As the exit polls flashed up on the screen the crowd at the Podemos election night gathering broke out in shouts of "remontada" "the come back". Surely Podemos supporters were thinking or shouting the same thing. The polls had not looked good for them at the start of the campaign. The final result was a stunning surge which, brought Podemos in third, only 1.5 points behind the Socialist Party (PSOE)
It is the Socialists worst result since the restoration of democracy in 1977. They have paid a heavy price for their acceptance of the politics of austerity.
Westway 23 is a community group formed to campaign about the use of the 23 acres given in 1971 to the community as compensation for the massive, polluting Westway which is a huge elevated flyover built through, what was then the poorest parts of, West London.

The community fought tirelessly against the Westway and were gifted the 23 acres of land underneath the road to use for the community's benefit. Most Londoners will be familiar with this area as it includes the Portobello Road Market area.

It was probably when I gave evidence at the Leveson Inquiry [following the News International phone-hacking scandal], but I first joined a protest the day after the 2015 election. I was devastated when the Tories got in, and knew how hard it was going to be for many people. There was a protest in Cardiff organised by the Cardiff People’s Assembly, which I’d never heard of before. I went along – there were news crews there, which I wasn’t expecting. I was interviewed, and it snowballed; the national People’s Assembly asked if I’d join its rally, too.

The climate deal agreed by world leaders in Paris this week is being heralded as a historic deal which has set the world on track to avoid catastrophic climate change.
